A Canadian Caregiver Strategy

Purpose

Key Questions: What are the caregiving strategies found throughout Canada? How can caregiving practices improve through strategic initiatives?

In 2009, the Canadian Caregiver Coalition (CCC) launched a Framework for a Canadian Caregiver Strategy. The strategy encourages both the public and private sector to work together in developing actions to support five essential elements that are critical to caregivers: Safeguard the health and well-being of family caregivers, minimize the financial burden placed on family caregivers, enable access to user friendly information and education, create flexible workplace / educational environments that respect caregiving obligations, invest in research on family caregiving as a foundation for evidence-informed decision making.
