National Health Normative Standards Framework for Interoperability in eHealth in South Africa

Purpose

Key Question: What is the framework for interoperability for eHealth in South Africa? What are some relevant use cases at each level?

The purpose of the report is to develop the first version of a National Health Normative Standards Framework for eHealth in South Africa (HNSF). The primary objective of the HNSF is to set the foundational basis for interoperability as articulated in the eHealth Strategy South Africa 2012-2016 [National Department of Health, 2012b].  The role of the standards-based strategy outlined in this report is to articulate an interoperability framework that may be used to achieve the desired network effect. It represents the first step towards a complete health enterprise architecture specification for South Africa.
